This page is the backbone of every review, comparison, and fit guide on WrestlingFitLab. If a claim appears on this site, this is how we produced it. No inherited opinions. No simulated data.
What We Measure
Every model goes through the same five-point measurement protocol before we write a word:
Forefoot width
Measured at the widest point with a digital caliper, in millimeters. We measure both the left and right shoe and average them.
Insole length
Pulled and measured end-to-end, in millimeters. This catches models where the labeled size does not match the actual last.
Weight
Single shoe, men's size 9 (or closest available), measured on a digital kitchen scale in grams.
Break-in behavior
Tracked over a minimum of three wear sessions. We note when the shoe stops feeling "new" and whether the fit changes.
Grip and mat feel
Subjective but documented. Two testers rate stick, slide, and floor feel on the same mat surface.
Our Testers
Fit advice is useless without knowing whose feet produced it. Every tester profile includes:
We aim for at least two testers per model, and we try to include at least one wide-foot tester on every review. When we cannot get a wide-foot tester on a specific model, we say so plainly.
Scoring System
Each reviewed model receives a weighted score out of 10, computed from four categories:
Fit accuracy
Does the labeled width match the measured width? Does it run true to size?
Grip & mat feel
Stick, slide, and floor contact on standard wrestling mat
Build & durability
Stitching, sole bonding, upper material quality, wear after testing
Value
Price relative to what you get — not cheapest wins, but best for the money

What We Do Not Do
Limitations
We test in men's sizing as the baseline and note women's and youth differences where applicable. Our sample size is small (typically 2-3 testers per model) — this is a limitation, and we treat it as one. Broader foot shapes may produce different results.
Prices and availability change. Every price we cite includes a "checked on" date. If that date is more than a month old, treat the price as directional.
